Master of Divinity in Professional Chaplaincy (M.Div.)

Purpose

The Master of Divinity in Professional Chaplaincy program is designed to educate and equip chaplain students for professional ministry in private organizations, the local church, para-church, healthcare, and military settings. The program core provides a broad overview of various foundational areas for ministry including but not limited to apologetics, theology, pastoral counseling, evangelism and discipleship, biblical studies, and leadership.

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • Develop a global great commission perspective which demonstrates the proclamation and application of the Gospel and disciple making process.
  • Examine major critical issues in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible from a conservative evangelical perspective while exhibiting knowledge of the literature appropriate to the discipline of Biblical Studies.
  • Examine theological positions on key doctrinal questions and issues in Christian thought.

Community Concentration

  • Synthesize the principles of spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and counseling in the community context.

Healthcare Concentration

  • Synthesize the principles of spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and counseling in the healthcare context.

Military Concentration

  • The student will be able to synthesize the principles of spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and counseling in the military context.

Program Specific Admission Requirements

In addition to the general admission procedures, applicants to the Master of Divinity in Professional Chaplaincy program must meet the following requirements:

  1. Earned baccalaureate degree or its equivalent (in any field) from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (e.g., SACSCOC, TRACS, ABHE, etc.).
  2. Contact information for one Pastoral Recommendation.
  3. Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale).
  4. School of Divinity Questionnaire/Personal Statement
  5. TOEFL Scores for students who speak English as a second language (score of 600 paper-based test; 250 computer-based test, 80 internet-based test).

Degree Transfer

M.A., M.A.C.M., M.A.G.S., M.A.T.S., M.R.E., OR M.Div. into the M.Div. in Professional Chaplaincy Program

Students who pursue a Master of Divinity in Professional Chaplaincy (M.Div.) degree after having earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Exposition (M.A.), Master of Arts in Christian Apologetics (M.A.), Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (M.A.C.M.), Master of Arts in Global Studies (M.A.G.S.), Master of Arts in Theological Studies (M.A.T.S.) or Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.), any Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree may use all applicable credits from the M.A., M.A.B.S., M.A.C.M., M.A.G.S., M.A.R., M.A.T.S. or M.R.E. toward the M.Div. as allowed by the student’s specific M.Div. in Professional Chaplaincy Degree Completion Plan (DCP) so long as the credits do not exceed two-thirds of the M.Div. program.

Degree Candidacy

Degree Candidacy is granted when the student completes all prerequisites and is in good academic standing.
