Purpose

The purpose of the Graduate Certificate in Urban Education is to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills to effectively engage in an urban setting. This is a non-licensure certificate and is not a state-approved program. Completion of this certificate will not lead to eligibility for a Virginia state teaching license or a teaching license or certificate in any other state. This certificate is intended to better equip teachers, counselors, and administrators to serve in urban school environments.

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

• Understand elements of historical and cultural influences pertaining to urban schools and communities.
