Career & Technical Education (CTE) Transition & Special Needs Add-On Endorsement Graduate Certificate

Purpose

The purpose of the Graduate Certificate in Career and Technical Education – Transition and Special Needs program is to provide candidates who hold an active license with a teaching endorsement, an avenue to earn an add-on endorsement in Career & Technical Education – Transition & Special Needs. Emphasis is placed on advanced studies regarding the characteristics of students with disabilities, disability law, and planning for employment, community, and independent living needs of exceptional learners. This program is defined by the federal guidelines, state guidelines of the Virginia Department of Education, the Council for Exceptional Children, and national accreditation. The guidelines for this program are subject to change based on federal and state regulations or national accreditation for the licensure of special education. This certificate is intended to better equip teachers and administrators to serve exceptional students.

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • Identify the unique needs of students with disabilities who are transitioning into their post-school lives.
