Combined Program: Bachelor of Science in Public Health (B.S.) - Community Health Promotion & Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) - Community Health Promotion
Purpose
The purpose of the 4+1 dual degree BS Public Health: Community Health Promotion and MPH Public Health: Community Health Promotion is designed to provide an opportunity for accelerated bachelor and master’s degrees in public health with a concentration in health promotion for qualified students. This accelerated degree program seeks to train students to serve as health education specialists in the health care industry, business, government, and in non-profit organizations. Students will gain advanced knowledge and practice in designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating interventions to ensure best practices for the overall wellness of the community.
Program Specific Admission Requirements
Admission to the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Public Health (B.S.) - Community Health Promotion concentration / Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) - Community Health Promotion concentration is a competitive process.
Admission standards for BS Health Promotion include:
- Must meet current Residential Undergraduate Admissions Standards.
Admission standards for MPH Community Health Promotion include:
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for admission into the Graduate level courses of this program.
- Completed all undergraduate work and the graduate courses required in the BS before having program switched to the MPH.
Program Learning Outcomes
The student will be able to:
- Investigate population health status, needs, and resources using appropriate assessment and analytical methods, integrating biblical perspectives on health and wellness.
- Develop and evaluate public health interventions that address health disparities in the context of culture, race, gender, and economics.
- Communicate health information through written, oral, and electronic methods.
- Apply a biblical worldview to public health leadership, systems thinking, group process, social justice, and ethical decision-making principles.
- Analyze literature of the Public Health discipline related to population health status, needs, and resources.
- Apply public health leadership principles through ethical decision-making and systems thinking.
- Apply communication and advocacy skills to influence policy and practice.
- Evaluate evidence-based public health interventions that address complex health disparities and inequalities in diverse populations.
- Describe health from the perspective of God's purposes for humanity in creation, fall and redemption.
