Chemistry Major (B.S.)

Chemistry Major (B.S.)

Purpose

The purpose of the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry major is to prepare students for global employment or graduate studies in the chemical and molecular sciences by providing them with a broad-based, lab-intensive chemistry curriculum taught from a biblical worldview. Design features in chemical systems, as well as chemical methods and theories relevant to the origin of life, are integrated into the curriculum. This major emphasizes critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and the ethical conduct that is required for students to be successful in chemistry as well as other science fields. Students are also given opportunities to do research with faculty using state-of-the-art chemical instrumentation, which further prepares graduates for global professional opportunities and postgraduate education.

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • Apply standards and principles of safe practice in the laboratory or field environment.
  • Understand ethical issues in the physical sciences in light of a biblical/Christian worldview.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental chemical concepts.
  • Conduct, analyze, and summarize chemical research.
