Music Major (B.S.) Vocal

Purpose

The purpose of the B.S. in Music with an emphasis in vocal music is to provide for the student opportunity to complete studies in music while earning a liberal arts degree.

The B.S. in Music with an emphasis in vocal studies does not require any foreign language. This 120-hour degree gives students opportunity to include 10-14 hours in an elective discipline. Students may choose instrumental or choral techniques courses as part of these electives.

The student is required to complete a keyboard proficiency, attend 56 approved concerts and recitals, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00 in music courses and complete the Sophomore Performance Review.

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate technical fluency, expressiveness, style, and professionalism in musical performance.
  • Apply broad-based knowledge of music through research in the areas of music history, music theory, and music literature.
  • Integrate Christian faith into the discipline of music.
