Purpose

The purpose of the Certificate in Speech Education is to provide an option for teachers who are currently licensed and desire an add-on endorsement to teach speech courses in grades 6-12 or teacher candidates who are enrolled in any teacher preparation program that leads to initial licensure who desire to teach speech courses in grades 6-12. This licensure certificate leads to a Virginia add-on endorsement and is intended to prepare teachers to serve in Speech classrooms.

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

• Demonstrate communication competency through verbal, non-verbal, and computer-mediated channels.
