Helms School of Government Minors
The Helms School of Government offers nine minor programs of study ranging from 15 to 18 hours in Criminal Justice, Government, International Relations, Politics and Policy, Strategic and Intelligence Studies, Homeland Security and Pre-Law.
Purpose
The Political Philosophy minor seeks to equip students with a uniquely Christian understanding of political theory. It seeks to radically integrate Christianity into our understanding of the Government’s role in society, helping students avoid both a withdrawal from political life, as well as accommodationist attitudes toward the prevailing political theories which suppress the truth of the Gospel. Students will learn to think critically as they engage with the ideas and thinkers who have shaped the Western view of politics. This minor further advances the practical, political, and scholarly training necessary to meet its goals of producing uniquely Christian statesmanship, service, and stewardship.
Program Learning Outcomes
The student will be able to:
- Explain the influences which have shaped Western political reflection
