Master of Health Sciences (M.H.S.)

Purpose

The Master of Health Science program equips graduate students with the knowledge and leadership skills necssary to address complex health challenges that affect the health of men, women, and children nationally and internationally. Students in this program will explore ethical challenges associated with population health and the associated opportunities afforded to us. Grounded in a biblical worldview, students will explore the relationship between health and human flourishing and what this means for the holistic health of individuals who have been created in the image of God. Foundational to this program is the committement to care for others with servent-oriented compassion tethered to our institutional philosophy of education whereby students are charged to value the intrinsic worth of all people as we steward the vocational opportunities given us within our individual spheres of work. 

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • Evaluate health sciences research based on knowledge of the literature.
  • Synthesize health sciences research to address challenges and/or opportunities within the field.
  • Create appropriate artifacts relevant to professional practice in the health sciences.
  • Articulate how a biblical worldview coheres with health sciences research and/or practice.

Program Specific Admission Procedures

In addition to the general admission requirements, admission to the Master of Health Sciences (M.H.S.) program requires:

  1. Earned master’s or professional practice degree beyond a bachelor’s from a regionally accredited institution (or foreign equivalent).
  2. An graduate cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above (on a 4.00 scale)

Students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement may be admitted on Academic Caution status. Students who have less than an graduate 2.75 GPA will not be admitted to the program.

Transfer Credit

Students may transfer up to 18 credit hours from an accredited institution subject to department approval. In order to transfer credit, students must have earned the minimum grade of B-, and courses must have been completed within 10 years of the start date of the program. Credits from a prior degree on the same academic level earned through Liberty University are considered transfer credits.

The following courses are not eligible for transfer credit: HLTH 601 Population Health Ethics (3 c.h.) and HLTH 602 Health Care & Human Flourishing (3 c.h.).
