ETHM 411 Music and Culture (3 c.h.), ETHM 511 Introduction to Ethnomusicology (3 c.h.), or MUSC 314 Music in World Cultures (3 c.h.) are prerequisites for ETHM 521 Skills and Techniques of Ethnomusicology (3 c.h.).

Any student who is not ready for enrollment in ETHM 690 Master's Thesis/Project Defense (3 c.h.) after completing ETHM 689 Master's Thesis/Project Proposal and Research (3 c.h.) may be required, as determined by the student's thesis/project chair, to repeat ETHM 689 Master's Thesis/Project Proposal and Research (3 c.h.) until deemed ready for enrollment in ETHM 690 Master's Thesis/Project Defense (3 c.h.).

Students must have a reading ability in at least one foreign language. This requirement is implemented in ETHM 692 Graduate Ethnomusicology Comprehensive Exam (0 c.h.).

Graduation Requirements

  • Complete 36 hours
  • A maximum of 50% of the program hours may be transferred if approved and allowable, including credit from an earned degree from Liberty University on the same academic level
  • 3.0 GPA
  • No more than two grades of C may be applied to the degree (includes grades of C+ & C-)
  • No grade of D or below may be applied to the degree (includes grades of D+ & D-)
  • Degree must be completed within 5 years
  • Foreign Language Reading Requirement1
  • Submission of Degree Completion Application must be completed within the last semester of a student’s anticipated graduation date
