This course examines the principles, including a traditional understanding of the nature and scope of the Bible, and methodologies of hermeneutics, focusing specifically on the interpretation of Old and New Testament literature. Emphasizing the importance of reading genre, historical and cultural context, and recognizing the diversity within the texts, students will explore various interpretative approaches to engage with the richness and complexity of biblical texts with depth and nuance.

This course provides an introduction to Hebrew and Greek alphabets and pronunciation, word formation, and basic grammar and syntax. Emphasis is placed on developing skills in the use of lexicons as well as the use of software tools for textual analysis and teaching/preaching preparation.
