This course sets the foundation for the success of the Doctor of Public Health program. A proper understanding of the Gate System and University and department resources is assessed during the course to ensure students are adequately prepared to be successful in moving through the Gates of the Doctor of Public Health program.

Doctor of Public Health students will write a personal reflection essay that defines public health in their own words. The essay needs to identify their interest in the field and their future goals as public health practitioners, which will assist staff and faculty with career advising and help better prepare students for the field.
Registration Restrictions: PHGT 701 (Grade of P), a minimum of 12 completed credit hours.

The purpose of this course is to ensure students capture the required accreditation and departmental standards of the Doctor of Public Health program by providing a repository for the foundational and concentration competencies and Deliverables created to document mastery of competencies, for accreditation. Further, the course consists of study materials to assist students to begin their journey on preparing for the required competency exam, which is taken during the next gate.

The purpose of this course is to ensure students meet the required accreditation and departmental standards of the Doctor of Public Health program. The course consists of the required competency exam students must pass to successfully complete the program, which measures the substantive and integrative knowledge of the field of public health.
