BLTH 904 Scripture, Revelation, and Interpretation 3 Credit Hour(s)
An examination of the doctrine of scripture with attention to its canonicity, inspiration, inerrancy, and authority. This course will also consider other such issues as the nature of divine revelation, religious language, speech act theory, methods in interpretation. The course will consider methodological presuppositions, as well as the application and results of such methods through history.

An examination of major theological themes in the Old Testament, including but not limited to, creation, Israel, covenants, sin, the Law, justice, and wisdom. Attention will be given to major approaches to the selected themes with a goal of critically analyzing said approaches.

An examination of major theological themes in the New Testament, including but not limited to, the kingdom of God, Christology, the Holy Spirit, salvation and atonement, sin, faith, the Law, justification/justice, and love. An examination of the gospel in the context of the entire biblical narrative. Special attention will be given to examining the gospel in the Old Testament, situating the New Testament proclamation of the gospel in its historical-cultural attention as well as upon the connections of the Old Testament covenants to the proclamation of the gospel in the New Testament.

BLTH 993 Readings in Biblical Theology and Comprehensive Examination 3 Credit Hour(s)
Analysis of the major primary sources and scholarly research of Biblical Theology leading toward a comprehensive examination.
Registration Restrictions: Once the student completes 15 hours of the Major Area of Focus, the student can be registered for the Major Area of Focus Directed Research and Comprehensive Examination course. Once the student completes 9 hours of the Major Area of Focus, the student can be registered for the Minor Area of Focus Directed Research and Comprehensive Examination course. Must be approved by the Director of the PhD in Biblical Studies or the PhD in Theological Studies.
