The course will present a broad overview of the field of environmental health and safety. Regulatory overview, benchmarking, and performance concepts related to safety and environmental engineering and management will be addressed. Electrical safety principles, storage and load calculations, lagging and leading indicator management and measurement will also be introduced.

This course will provide an in-depth survey of the U.S. Federal OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) CFR (Code of Federal Regulations), occupational safety hazard recognition, and management fundamentals for EHS practitioners. The focus of this course is for future EHS professionals to gain the preparatory foundation for managing occupational health and safety-related issues for their respective employer.

ENHS 410 Emergency Response Management 3 Credit Hour(s)
This course will instruct the safety professional in the technology and science required for successful emergency planning and management. Risk management techniques for extreme events where human life is imperiled and the implementation of plans which effectively identify and respond to those risks will be incorporated. Students will additionally review causes and prevention of workplace violence. Attention will be given to possible ways for integrating a Biblical Worldview into emergency management planning.

This course will provide a high-level overview of the critical history of some ecological environmental impacts in our world. Specific environmental disasters and crises will be discussed regarding the eventual development of U.S. Federal and Global Organizations which have promulgated the regulations and standards in place today. Responsible and successful environmental management practices, tactics and standards will be surveyed in detail, including the eventual development of the Global ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard. The student will learn best practice methods of efficiently and effectively managing hazardous wastes of all types. The course will provide an opportunity for the student to understand ways to synthesize a Biblical Worldview into environmental management.

This course will examine common classes of chemicals used in industrial settings and how they affect human health. Emphasis will be placed on the common duties of a Chemical Hygiene Officer: proper chemical storage/management and appropriate responses to chemical exposure.

The course addresses the typical types of accidents in the workplace, their common causes, and the proper proactive approach to prevent them. Focus will include several methodologies for root cause analysis.

ENHS 415 Policies and Ethics of Health and Safety 3 Credit Hour(s)
This course will give the student an excellent foundation in various perspectives in professional ethics. Ethical issues driving policy and program creation will be reviewed in detail throughout this course. The course will survey such topics as behavior-based safety programs, ethical environmental management, auditing for program and policy compliance, safety performance characteristics of a good safety culture, and various governmental standards related to program development. Specifically, the course will focus the student’s EHS ethics perspective through the lens of the Biblical Worldview. Finally, the course will analyze the BCSP (Board of Certified Safety Professionals) Code of Ethics for potential integration into the student’s personal ethics point of view.

ENHS 491 Capstone in Environmental Health and Safety 3 Credit Hour(s)
This capstone course builds on the knowledge and skills obtained from the coursework completed in this degree to this point. This course challenges students to apply effective safety management techniques strategically to achieve a safety culture that will exceed any corporation’s highest expectations and to do so with a Biblical Worldview in focus. This course is designed for final semester seniors.
