It is an integrated study of the visual, performing, and literary arts, and the discipline of philosophy that permeates all the arts. CSTU 301  Film as Art  3 Credit Hour(s)  
This course offers instruction in the fundamentals of interpreting film as an artful medium with emphasis on narrative structure, image composition, mise-en-scene, sound, cinematography, and editing. Students will apply this filmic language to better discern a film's literary meaning, including its theme, characterization, scene, setting, point of view, and dialogue through written critical analyses. This course explores the web of relationships between religion and the arts throughout the history of Western culture, from biblical times into the postmodern era. Major topics will include: the mutual influences of religion and the arts on each other, how philosophers and theologians have understood the nature of beauty, the place of the visual and performing arts in contemporary Christian faith and practice, and how the arts are an integral component of a biblical worldview.
