CHPL 200 Introduction to Chaplaincy 3 Credit Hour(s)
This course examines the ministry of the chaplain from a biblical basis. Attention is given to the various functional areas of chaplaincy to include corporate, healthcare, military, education, prison, community, disaster relief, public safety, recreation, and sports. Finally, students will explore the skills, strategies, and character traits necessary for effective chaplain ministry within secular and sacred settings.

This course provides a foundational study in chaplain leadership; focusing on the calling, character, competence, and connection of the chaplain to lead within secular and religious contexts. Special emphasis is placed on the chaplain's ability to influence critical decisions and lives within the chaplain context.

This course provides a foundational study of biblical ethics within the pluralistic contexts in which chaplains serve. Specific attention is given to ethical decision-making, advisement, evangelism, and exercising one’s faith in a pluralistic culture.

CHPL 499 Chaplain Internship 3 Credit Hour(s)
A practical field experience in chaplaincy under the supervision of an approved mentor. The field, mentor, and nature of service must be approved beforehand by the Faculty Advisor. To receive 3 hours of credit, students must complete a minimum of 150 field hours.
